Meet Our Amazing Choir Director!!
My name is Meg Palermo and I am the director of choirs here at DV. I was born and raised in Connecticut. I have my Master's Degree in Choral Conducting from Westminster Choir College and my Bachelor’s in Music Education from University of Delaware. This is my 9th year teaching high school choral music. I have taught high school choir in Las Vegas, Gilbert AZ, New Jersey, and now here. Prior to this job at DV, I held the position of Music Director for a church in Scottsdale, taught private voice lessons, conducted a community choir and played piano for local high school choirs and theater groups in Phoenix. However, there’s nothing I love more than running a fast-paced rehearsal in a high school choral classroom.
I am truly passionate and enthusiastic about music, and I hope my energy will empower the students to feel even more invested in the program at Desert Vista. I teach based on my belief that students learn and are truly inspired by high quality musical experiences, so I strive to make the music the best that it can be. I think it is important that students can feel success and accomplishment in their efforts, in addition to fully understanding the complexities and nuances that make music come alive. In some other schools that I have worked I have spent years building their choral programs from the bottom up, and I have learned a great deal about what is involved in recruiting students, proposing new classes, building music literacy by working with feeder schools and collaborating with parents. I love that here at DV we have a high school choral program where there is already a tradition of excellence established, and I can teach a variety of repertoire, to students capable of a high level of understanding and musicianship.
My desire has been to settle in a school that I can call home for many years to come. This past year I found myself deeply fulfilled by this experience. I cannot wait to work with all of you again!
